Food Bank Pick-up Volunteer
Fayette Cares needs your help picking up food and other supplies for the Fayette Cares Food Pantry and Housing Programs.
Fayette Cares is a member agency of the Mid-South Food Bank located at 239 South Dudley in mid-town Memphis. This partnership with the Food Bank allows Fayette Cares to receive food and other household supplies for a $0.14 per pound maintenance fee. Fayette Cares orders needed supplies from the Food Bank a couple of times a year and needs volunteers to go to the Food Bank, pick up the order, and transport it back to Fayette Cares.
The Mid-South Food Bank requires that volunteers who pick up orders to attend a one-time training. The training gives an orientation to how the Food Bank operates and what is required of volunteers that pick up orders.
The following are the requirements of a Food Bank Pick-up Volunteer
- Be available to attend a one-time training at the Mid-South Food Bank. The trainings are held monthly and last about three hours (9am-12pm).
- Have reliable transportation to and from the Mid-South Food Bank.
- Be available to travel to the Mid-South Food Bank to pick up food and supply orders and transport orders back to Fayette Cares.
- Pick-up times can be scheduled to accommodate the volunteer's schedule during the Food Bank's normal business hours (Monday-Friday 9am-4pm).
- Time spent picking up orders at the Food Bank typically takes 30-45 minutes.
- Ability to lift and load order from Food Bank into your vehicle; the Food Bank does not provide help loading the order. Fayette Cares staff and volunteers can help unload at Fayette Cares.
