A Message from Board Member Fred Walker

Like so many others, my first perception of Fayette Cares was that it’s the place where we drop off donations of clothing and toys.  But my eyes have been opened to the many services and the deep impact of this amazing organization.

I didn’t realize that those donations my kids and I delivered, coupled with monetary gifts, help sustain the homeless shelter.  Or that the shelter can house nearly 30 people at a time.

I was aware of fundraising events in our community, like the big plant sale, golf tournament, vineyard event, 5k, and gala, but didn’t understand that their purpose was to sustain domestic violence intervention programs that protect battered women and men.

It was impressive to learn that Fayette Cares prevents homelessness with emergency rent and utility aid, and by helping clients learn skills and link to resources for lasting stability.  In fact, our agency conducts an annual homeless street count to gather data for national allocation of funds and services.

I’ve learned so much about the meaningful work of Fayette Cares and want others to join in strengthening these efforts.

As a native of Fayette County, I am proud to now serve on the Board of this great non-profit organization and am deeply committed to the mission of empowering those in need with solutions to end homelessness, breaking the cycle of domestic violence, and creating stability and self-sufficiency from crisis.

We here at Fayette Cares would like to thank our friends and supporters for believing in the mission and helping to change lives. We ask for your continued support by donating, volunteering, attending events, or referring someone that may need our services.  There is no place for homelessness, abuse, or hunger in our community.
