Maria’s* mind swirled as she struggled to communicate in Spanish and the bits of English she picked up since moving to the US.
“Yo … I need … help,” she managed, “mi marido… he hurts me.” Jennifer, a Fayette Cares Victim Advocate, gently reassured her and offered translation services.
Tears streamed down Maria’s bruised face as she showed the threatening texts her husband had sent. He had become increasingly abusive, both physically and emotionally.
Maria needed to return to the safety of her family in Mexico. “We can help,” Jennifer assured. Through a partnership with United Airlines and Fayette Cares, Jennifer provided options to escape the violence. Maria’s eyes widened with hope. “Thank you! ¡Gracias! Thank you so much,” she repeated.
Every day your support makes it possible to go the distance for victims, even in the most challenging situations. And for that Maria and hundreds of other survivors are deeply grateful.
