Police and Court Collaborations Save Lives

Because domestic violence (DV) calls are among the most dangerous, with the highest mortality rate for officers, DV response training is crucial to mitigate risks to victims, officers, and community.

Victim Advocates Janisha Lax and Jennifer Williams met with Fayette Co. Sheriff Deputies and General Sessions Court staff to enhance support and safety measures for victims of DV. The group discussed assessing high-risk victims with an evidence-based screening tool using the Lethality Assessment Program (LAP).

This structured approach involves service connection via a 24-hour hotline, ensuring that victims receive immediate access to safe escape options. Training also helps officers provide effective information and resources when victims are not ready or able to leave.

Volunteering for the LAP program as a hotline volunteer is a great way to give victims hope and a chance to escape violence.  Learn more at FayetteCares.org/lap-interest.
