Turning Surplus into Sustenance

For the past five years, Fayette Cares has been a lifeline for those struggling with hunger, expanding our outreach to provide weekly food distributions to low-income families, disabled individuals, and elderly residents in our community.

Every week, a dedicated team of volunteers, primarily from St. Philip Catholic Church, steps up to represent Fayette Cares in the greater West Tennessee grocery rescue program—a powerful initiative that turns surplus food into hope. Partnering with local grocers, volunteers collect nutritious but unsellable items, like goods nearing their “sell-by” dates, slightly imperfect produce, or overstocked products, ensuring this food isn’t wasted but instead serves a greater purpose.

With support from Hickory Withe Baptist Church, these rescued items are lovingly organized by our caring volunteers. Baked goods, deli items, fresh produce, and meats are then delivered directly to those who need them most, bringing nourishment and relief to vulnerable communities.

This remarkable effort not only reduces food waste but also transforms lives, one meal at a time, proving that together, we can make a lasting difference for our neighbors in need.
