2024 Fayette Cares High Cotton 5k Dr. Glenn Weatherly and Winnie

High Cotton 5k/1k Has Tail-Wagging Twist

This year, the High Cotton 5k/1k is going to the dogs—in the best way possible! On Saturday, September 13th, grab your sneakers, leash up your pup, and hit the streets of Somerville for a tail-wagging good time. This year, participants can add a special “Pet Pass” for just $15, letting four-legged friends join the fun and even scoring their own exclusive race bandana.

Beyond being a blast for runners and walkers, this new addition carries a deeper purpose. Animal abuse and domestic violence are tragically intertwined.  Abusers often harm or threaten to harm pets as a means of control using fear to trap survivors in dangerous situations.  Many survivors stay out of fear for their pets, knowing that abusers often harm or kill animals to maintain control.  Those fears are sadly justified: studies show that between 48% to 71% of abuse survivors report that their abuser has harmed or killed a family pet.  By joining us—paws and all—you’ll help raise awareness and provide safe options for people and their beloved pets.

So lace up, leash up, and step up for an unforgettable day! Whether you’re running for the challenge or walking for the cause, there’s something for everyone: a timed 5k course with live finish-line video, cotton-themed awards for top finishers, and a 1k Fun Run for a relaxed, family-friendly experience.

The race begins at the Somerville Methodist Church and ends at the Fayette County Cotton Festival, where food, vendors, and fun await!

Register now at FayetteCares.org/5k to join us on Saturday, September 13th for the High Cotton 5k/1k, a race that goes the extra mile to help families in crisis.
