High Spirits at the
High Cotton 5k/1k

A Race & Fun Run That's Good for Body & Soul

Ponchos and umbrellas weren’t enough to keep running shoes dry, but rain certainly didn’t dampen spirits for hundreds of runners and walkers who turned out on Saturday, September 10th for the High Cotton 5k/1k benefiting Fayette Cares.

Happy participants never lost sight of the meaningful services they were there to support.  A community of caring showed up and showed love for those struggling in poverty, those who are homeless, and victims fleeing abuse.

There to help fund the shelter, food pantry, and lifesaving programs of Fayette Cares, were hundreds of 5k race and 1k fun run registrants, volunteers, and sponsors including Mercedes-Benz of Collierville, Somerville Animal Hospital, Rehab World, Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, Somerville First United Methodist Church, Activ Imaginations, Bill Covington Laser Engraving, David Kelley Jewelers, and The Fayette Falcon.

The Overall Winners were: Overall Male – Elliot Knernschield of Memphis 17:22, Overall Female – Jaime Russell of Oakland 22:28, Male Masters – Robert Berry of Somerville 21:12, Female Masters – Pamela Pierski of Somerville 25:13, Male Grand Masters – Murray Fullner of Bartlett 22:49, Female Grand Master – Mary Laquinta of Oakland 27:55.
