Training Volunteers to Support Survivors

Domestic violence isn’t always visible. Many victims suffer in silence, controlled through fear, isolation, and intimidation rather than, or in addition to, physical harm. Abusers often manipulate their partners by limiting access to money, monitoring their movements, or threatening loved ones, leaving victims feeling trapped and powerless.

Fayette Cares trains volunteers to recognize these red flags and respond with compassion. Through guidance from Victim Advocates Maigyn Luthe and Kelsey Wilson, volunteers learn how to provide emotional support, develop safety plans, and connect victims with emergency shelter, legal advocacy, and other vital services.

Volunteers also gain insight into the Lethality Assessment Program (LAP), a tool used by law enforcement to identify victims at high risk of serious harm or homicide and connect them to help in real time.

With the right training and understanding, volunteers play a key role in helping victims break free from the cycle of abuse and begin a path to safety and healing. Make a difference today when you volunteer with us at FayetteCares.org/volunteer.
